Grooming helps in so many ways. Cleaning the horse helps to make them feel good and stay healthy. It is the best proactive prevention of disease.

Another benefit of grooming is the opportunity for horses and humans to connect. The best teacher for becoming a good horseman is often the horse. Helping this along is when a more experienced horseman starts you off with a curry and a brush. The smell from grooming horses is better than anything.

There is always one very important caveat. Remember that any horse can seriously hurt you and even kill you. Unfortunately, many horse owners have lost themselves in grooming, and when they lose their connection, become lost in their thoughts, and are vulnerable, they get hurt and even die. ALWAYS STAY CONNECTED!

An old street sweeping brush is placed vertically and is used as a scratching post for horses in this field.
A common way to dry the exercise boots. Keeping them clean is so important.

Cotton ear plugs are commonly used by grooms and riders to help the horse remain focused. They are also made of foam rubber and can be colored to hide their presence.
Cross ties – the tennis ball allows for the tie to be dropped against the wall without the noise and damage caused by the metal snap without the ball. ALSO – he snaps are quick release, though many grooms add break away string or yarn here too.

Cross ties are another way of applying a direct connection to the horse though it is not a connection to you. It does, though. Provide a degree of safety when working on a horse that is far safer than no halter and lead. That said, you must remain vigilant to the horses as I know of many people severely injured by a horse in cross ties.
