Here’s a crazy one for you…QUARTER CRACKS ARE GOOD…it’s nature way of reversing underslung heels…I hate it when farriers stitch the crack closed…all stitching does is make it ten times harder to reverse the underslung heel. The crack does not cause pain…the pain is coming from the broken bar not the wall crack…Ugh.
No repair will be effective until the physics behind the shearing of the hoof wall is addressed. In addition, there needs to be a strengthening of the hoof through nutrition (increase a broad variety of amino acids) plus remove gut inflammation causing the chronic protein deficiency (a no grain diet).
