Bog spavin is the enlargement of the tarsometatarsal joint as seen in this large fluid filled swelling on the inside of this hock. Also, there is a solid enlargement seen below the bog which is called a bone spavin caused by laying down of bone material on the joint, ankylosing it (fusing the joint naturally or surgically), freezing its movement and eliminating the pain.
