Rounds With Doc T – “How Does The Horse Brain Work?“ - 2022 February 28th
The brain of the horse has been dissected and analyzed but how does it really work? Behaviorists have looked at how horses use their brains and trainers have applied their theories for decades and even centuries. We can read the materials available to us all from veterinary textbooks to current comments on social media videos.
Have we found… Read more

THANK YOU!!
I am grateful for everyone who comes here and then after discovering the benefits tell others. The reward is seeing the horses improve along with the smiles on the faces of owners.
Keep smiling when others don’t understand. For many this paradigm shift is a process. Stay positive when others doubt you. Just set the example with… Read more

I thought I had answered this so I apologize for any technical glitch that evaporated it!
Dealing with flies has always been a problem. However I have not seen a problem with horses ingesting any significant amount of residual sprays. My wife has been spraying our horses for decades. But this really doesn’t prove anything so I would also… Read more

I wonder if your farrier (if not you) will notice this too? It is one of the fun parts when someone else notices what you see.

LOL – the “fun” of owning horses. Not only a cut but the timing of it to be the most inconvenient – on your way to work.

Using anything to clean a wound before granulation tissue forms and the new epithelial cells haven’t formed is OK with me. Personally I like a soap such as an iodine / povodine scrub plus physical abrasion as long as the horse will stand for it. However, after this 1st cleaning it is really important to not use anything that will destroy the… Read more

Hey Doc T,
I thought you might like to know how many people you are reaching peripherally through the members. I wonder if people would write in and say how many of their friends they have convinced to try the no grain challenge or in the case of folks that weren’t using grain before, just adding SBM.
5 so far for me.

I just wanted to report that while we have a nice band of new hoof wall about an inch down from the coronet band, I am also noticing very significant improvement in the bottom of the foot. My gelding always had crappy bars-about half way down the length of there there was alway a depression in the bar and they were not continuous to the end. … Read more

Rem says thanks for the tune up, @Doc-t . He was antisocial for a couple of days but was agreeable, if sluggish today. Something’s up but at least I know it’s not his teeth.

You’re welcome and thank you for asking me to help with his teeth. “Sluggish?” “Antisocial?” Those are hard things to hang a hat on especially with the good weather you have been having. I hope he gets back to normal really soon. Let me know

Wondering your thoughts about using contact lens solution to clean wounds. There are 2 kinds: 1. peroxide (NEVER EVER squirt this in an eye or around it-NEVER)
2. one step cleaners such as biotrue (my favourite)
I like that you can squirt them with pressure from the bottle and that any residual liquid is also antimicrobial.
