Hi everyone — My name is Julianne, and my horse, Remi, is a 17-year-old Dutch Warmblood. I have owned him for almost four years and have been learning new things since day one! He was a jumper in his previous career and was retired due to suspensory issues. After lots of trial and error and two more rounds of rehab, he has been sound for the…

Because I'm clearly not spending enough money...
The PDCAAS method (Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score) is used in the study you linked to. As this was only an abstract, there are a lot of questions raised that the full article may or may not address. First question is what is the PDCAAS method?
The PDCAAS method is used to evaluate the quality of the protein being evaluated…

Because I'm clearly not spending enough money...
Circling back to the hemp discussion. I found a study abstract copyrighted by the American Chemical Society (link below) evaluating the quality of protein in hemp seed. Since there are no studies on horses, is it reasonable to think the values in this study, which were pulled from something done with rats, would be similar?
I decided to order…

Cool. Looking forward to the podcast. Funny that my wandering through the interwebs intersected with a topic already in consideration. Excellent.

Rounds With Doc T - "Trailering Horses - On The Road Again" - 2021 July 26th
Hi Dr T,
Another great Rounds talk, thank you. Over in the UK if we need to travel more than 2 horses we do it in a lorry, over here trailers only take 2 horses. We don’t have the big trucks you have for trailing. They would never fit into our car parking spaces. Compared to the US our parking spaces are tiny! Most of the trailers, including…

@KarenM 1st let me copy the abstract then I will follow that with my interpretation.
Abstract
Activation of the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR)-controlled anabolic signaling pathways in skeletal muscle of rodents and humans is responsive to the level of dietary protein supply, with maximal activation and rates of protein synthesis…

I agree. Tires are usually rated by miles driven on them but there is also an age expiration. It seems costly to replace a tire that “looks good” but in reality, replacing them after a period of disuse is important.
Having “more truck than trailer” is a safety consideration especially with mountain driving. You will recoup the cost when you…

Rounds With Doc T - "Trailering Horses - On The Road Again" - 2021 July 26th
Thank you Doc T for a very informative session on Trailering horses. One of the
biggest issues I see is people not replacing the tires on the trailer
soon enough. I was taught to replace them every 5-6 yrs. no matter how
good they still look. I learned the hard way about dry rot.😟 And always have more truck than trailer. Waiting for my… -

If appropriate, can Dr T interpret this abstract for “the class”? It’s only the abstract, but maybe Dr T can access the full paper elsewhere? I saw a link on FB to a presentation available to a members only dressage site about max protein for horses so I trolled for the researcher’s name on Google Scholar and grabbed the first link I found.…
