Hi Dr. T., I rescued a mare 3.5 months ago, I believe she’s 20 years old? She was very skinny w/her ribs showing. I got her back to good state w/6 lbs. Tribute wholeness Blend feed (no wheat middling nor grain etc). & I gave her 1/2 pound of soybean meal, 4 pounds of alfalfa/Timothy soaked pellets daily w/2-flakes of alfalfa hay & 24/7 free… Read more

A pine tree was struck by lightning in a horses pasture. Do I cut the stump low to the ground or ground the stump?

This can go either way.
If left tall, it can become an obstacle to be wounded on. If ground, it can become a depression over time as the roots rot.
Some have left the stump tall, like 6 feet (2m) which a horse will remember as always being there. But ground flat works, too, if you remember to add fill as needed.
