It was a blood draw at 1 PM. He had his soaked hay and SBM around 8 AM. His ACTH was good. Yes, the real result is having a little Morgan that is no longer in pain and wants to move and play.
I’ve kept a journal during this 6-year quest to find help. (It’s an interesting read.) I truly believe THA saved Wren’s life and I tell everyone I… Read more

I found this Rounds particularly valuable, not that the others aren’t, but this one just refreshed the core issues with a diet high in sugars. Great analogies you’ve used to explain concepts simply Definitely one to listen to multiple times.

Quality Protein of SBM vs alfalfa
Thanks for rebutting the facts. When you have time I hope you can get to the alfalfa part of my Q after finding that Texas A&M study.

Health Risk of Processed Foods
Thanks for the viewing tip, I haven’t seen “The History of Food” and will look for it.
I’ve been in those amazing limestone steady-climate caves in Kansas City. They are pretty amazing and warehouse almost everything you can imagine. The downside to working there (and there are tons of offices) is the lack of any sunlight.

Quality Protein of SBM vs alfalfa
Oh Goodness! @Kathy – Where do I start?
1st, I think my message is getting out because these articles show discussions about protein. But regarding the quality of this information, I would never trust what they say. Anything written by a grain/feed company (Blue Seal) is biased. I need to see the Texas A&M study, but I must get to work right… Read more

Health Risk of Processed Foods
Nice find @Kathy – I believe that inflammation is causing the majority of problems in the gut, from the lips to the anus. It disrupts the integrity of the gut lining and also upsets the delicate microbiome. I further believe that ingredients that don’t normally belong in a “natural” diet cause this inflammation.
In this “human world,” a… Read more

Hair loss after starting Grain Free
@Olivia.THD – when you have a moment, please update us on the hair loss or if you change the diet again. @Kathy mentioned today that blanket rubbing is possible for your horse’s hair loss. Thoughts?

Hair loss after starting Grain Free
Could that possibly be from a blanket rub during shedding season? I find that my horses will lose their shedding hair much faster in certain spots where a blanket or a rider’s boot are causing friction, but once the rest of the horses gets around to shedding out all looks even again.

Health Risk of Processed Foods
This recent NPR article spells out how processed foods add to weight gain in humans, and I think I’ve seen the same thing with my horses when fed processed feed and treats vs only minimally processed (SBM, bailed hay and alfalfa cubes) plus unprocessed pasture. We are trying to cut out as much processing as I can for both horses and humans… Read more

Rounds with Doc T - Thursday May 25th, 2023 [Replay]
Hi Linda, this is Matt, and I help with the tech side of things. Out of curiosity, is there another online meeting platform you prefer? What is it about the Zoom platform that you don’t want to use/download? I believe there is an option to dial in by phone as well, but it is not as functional as the full Zoom app. If you have ideas on how to… Read more

Question:
Are you as against feeding the straw portion of barley, wheat or oat straw given that it is the part without the seeds? It’s the portion of the grain plant that doesn’t carry the significant proportion of the sugars. So if finding grain free grass or forage is difficult at a particular time of the year, would you recommend feeding… Read more
