Doc-t replied to the discussion Horse’s odd odor on SBM? in the forum No Grain Challenge 3 years ago
I have not heard of a bad odor from feeding SBM to any horse.
Usually, an odor comes from bacteria on the skin that has overgrown, such as excessive sweat. But the real culprit is the body’s microbiome, which is not “normal” for the area. The most common cause of body dysbiosis is excessive cleaning with antibacterial soap (or any kind… Read more

Doc T, a friend wants to know if you have ever come across a horse who…..stinks…on this diet. Not his manure or urine, but his skin. Hair coat looks good but the horse stinks- like weird mechanical sour smell. Friend has been feeding no grain with SBM to various horses for several years. Said this is really weird and has her… Read more

Doc-t replied to the discussion I have a couple questions… in the forum No Grain Challenge 3 years ago

Rounds With Doc T - Ask Doc T Anything - 2022 July 11th
@KrissyHumptyDooNT – We have little experience feeding lupins to horses here in America. In AU, its’ use is only for 30 to 40 years. In addition, little research has been done on the bioavailability of the protein in horses making its dosing unclear.
Lupins are a legume like alfalfa, peanut, and soybean. I can tell that feeding sweet… Read more

Best practice on feeding a two yr old (TB)–I confess to not retaining info on feeding babies from other conversations. I’m considering a particular filly and it’s been a minute since I had a youngster. She’s free of injuries and in good gastric health (an assumption); unraced but did train so they fed her accordingly. I have a… Read more- View 1 reply
