Retained Placenta In The Mare

When a mare delivers her foal, the placenta (the tissues surrounding the foal within the uterus) should come out within an hour. If it doesn’t, you must call a veterinarian to remove the entire placenta. Any remaining tissue may cause a uterine infection and, in some mares, also cause severe laminitis.
