Retained Placenta In The Mare

When a mare delivers her foal, the placenta (the tissues surrounding the foal within the uterus) should come out within an hour. You must call a veterinarian to remove the entire placenta if it doesn’t. Any remaining tissue may cause a uterine infection and, in some mares, also cause severe laminitis.
