Looking down on the hips, you can see that the horse’s right hip has a sunken look compared to the other side. The horse moves pain free and competes well.
Dropped down hip – This is the right side and the tip of the hip bone is displaced down about 4 inches below its normal spot.
This horse is standing squarely on his hind legs. Notice the asymmetry of the hips. This horse is 19 years and is sound and competing.
Dropped down hip – This is the left side and is normal.
