The brain of the horse has been dissected and analyzed but how does it really work? Behaviorists have looked at how horses use their brains and trainers have applied their theories for decades and even centuries. We can read the materials available to us all from veterinary textbooks to current comments on social media videos.

Have we found the secret to how the brains of horses think about us, other horses, and everything in between? Have we overanalyzed things? I’m not sure. However, after seeing tens of thousands of horses of every breed and sport, and environment, I have recognized a few patterns that I want to talk about.

I will not offer training advice or compete with the various styles of training promoted by the many entrepreneurs who have done this already. This is not a “how-to” seminar. Rather, it is a thought-provoking exercise in understanding a few basic principles I feel work for every horse you will come into contact with. It may be more about your brain and how it works because without understanding that, you can’t understand the brain of the horse.

    Here is the replay:

Here is the PDF of the slide show that I really did not use but there are some notes here that might be helpful. ALSO be sure to listen to Podcast #46 “Horse Psychology With Dr Jenny Susser.”

I couldn’t make the livecast but boy, what a treat even if in replay. The awareness of a connection, the present-ness and how to attain – it’s gold dust. Thank you so much.

Thank you Caroline. Thinking that I make “gold dust” for someone fires me up!

Be sure to listen to last week’s podcast with “Dr Jenny” for more about the brain.
