Hey Jenny – I’m from the bulgy bit on the west side (Wales)! Let’s do a virtual cuppa sometime!

Hi Sandy – feel likewise overwhelmed – so much to learn! Figure I’m taking it ‘one bite at a time’ 😁

Hi Kathy – always good to hear the no-grain positive experiences. I went grain free to help my enormous TB who stops sweating once the temps get to 95 deg. Helped short-term but not entirely fixed – there have been other complicating factors. My other guys went GF too and they are happy & healthy.

Intolerance to SBM...real or imagined?
Thanks Sandy_K for taking the “leap of faith.” Now we need more details.
1) What is the form and amount of exercise (riding, lounging, treadmill, ponying, etc)? Please include amount of time (45 min, etc) and the frequency (3x per week etc). Do you monitor the heart rate of the horse and if so, how? Do you work him into a sweat / hard…

Intolerance to SBM...real or imagined?
A quick update on my gelding. After making the changes that Doc T has suggested (restricted access to hay/pasture & increased exercise), I took a leap of faith and started my horse back on SBM. I’m delighted to report that he is doing wonderful! He is full of energy and starting to regain muscle. As for the corneal ulcer, we are still working…

Welcome Chrissy! I love this part: ” I found looking for information on google/face book overwhelming/contradictory and confusing.” So true!
Sorry about the time difference but hope you can join us this Sunday at 8pm New York time to discuss “Aerobic exercise and its effect on insulin resistance.”
We are a small group today but we are a group…

Hi, my name is Chrissy and I live in a rural community called Humpty Doo in the Northern Territory in Australia. I’m excited to join this forum in the search for better health for my two horses, in particular, my rising 19 year old Australian Stock Horse (ASH), who, until I stumbled upon the ‘No Sweat Diet’ of Dr T’s suffered terribly… Read more

Doc-t replied to the discussion Exercise vs Diet NYT article in the forum No Grain Challenge 5 years ago
This article misses critical points that I will go over this Sunday in the Zoom meeting. In essence, there are 2 ways to get glucose into cells: insulin dependent and insulin independent. Exercise triggers the independent pathway. Further, increased body fat leads to the development of intracellular fat in the muscle cells. This is the first…

Interesting research about the impact of diet and about calorie regulation. In keeping with what we are seeing with our horses once we eliminate grain.
