That was true of the one we used years ago. Last year I started to use this product. Solitude – which I believe works in an entirely different way. I only used it on 2 horses and had no problems. I believe it had a good result but I also increased my use of fly bait with about 4 bait stations – using Golden Malrin alternating with Quick…

I personally don’t like the feed through fly control though many find success with it. I tried it with my horses and one became very ill (jaundice and fever) so I never used it again. I have also had a few horses get the same illness with Strongid-C feed through dewormer. I warn everyone to look for this reaction within the 1st day or 2 but…

Justifying not feeding a vitamin/mineral supplement
Thanks Jenny! That was our first weekend at Grand Prix’ last month. 2-1/2 years ago, before finding this diet, I was going to have to sell this horse or likely get badly hurt. His response to pulling grain was dramatic and quick. The protein supplementation from SBM has him beautifully muscled and strong with all the strength and endurance he…

Thank you for that question. I am also struggling to control flies. I live in Arizona. I keep my barn clean, with traps, fly spray, fly masks etc. I still have a lot of flies. It is unpleasant for horses and humans. I recently visited a local barn and was shocked that there were virtually no flies. In addition to the already mentioned ways…

Doc T,
Thank you for all you are doing to help horses. It is a long story with my girl but so far it looks like she is back and we are becoming a team again. I have had her on SBM since September and we have now competed in 3 Endurance rides with another one coming this Saturday. She looks great and is happy moving down the trail. The best part…

Doc-t replied to the discussion Talk to me about PSSM in the forum Systems And Diseases 5 years ago
PSSM is the acronym for PolySaccharide Storage Myopathy. EPSM and EPSSM are equivalents. The issue in this disease is the muscle cells are unable to utilize the glycogen well for energy production.
Glycogen is the way glucose (the basic sugar molecule of life) is stored in animals. Starch is how glucose is stored in plants. It is documented…

Welcome Lancette! Thanks for coming on board. I am working on developing a safe place for ideas to come forward that might be controversial relative to what we all have been taught about caring for horses. This stems from asking “Why?” all the time. The fact you have learned more in the last 5 years is probably because you too have been…

Hey everyone! My name is Kaylee. I have a 29 year old mustang gelding, who I believe is a reservation mustang(he doesn’t have the BLM freeze brand), and a BLM Sulphur Springs mustang mare who is 5 years old.
Last year my gelding was really struggling to hold his weight. I tried feeds, supplements, different hays and read everything I could…

Hello Everyone,
My name is Lancette. I live in Mesa, Arizona. I am blessed to have 4 wonderful Arabian horses in my barn. My passion is Endurance riding but I appreciate many horse disciplines and wish I had the time to participate in them. Above all, the relationship I have with my horse is the most important thing to me. Through many…

Justifying not feeding a vitamin/mineral supplement
Thanks for your helpful replies. I now feel I have a good response to people’s concerns. In the UK we all get our water from the water companies very few people will have a well. Our local water company gets the water from deep underground aquifers. I went on their website and looked up our water analysis, it was packed full of minerals!
