Adding Weight - fat or muscle? +broodmare diets
1) Do we want any fat on the horse’s body? Like do my “skinny” horses (which I would say is 2 of them) need more muscle or fat or both? What I’m seeing on why I think they are skinny: More ribs visible, hip bone, top of butt. Only one of these horses has been a “chronically” skinny horse and the other one I think is growing.… Read more -

@Kerry I know this doesn’t add anything to what you can read online. I decided to make it a little different based on experience rather than repeating what the others say. Let me know if this helps and if you know a ka-zillionaire willing to research this.

Adding Weight - fat or muscle? +broodmare diets
Welcome Liz!
I am a beginner as well and as such don’t have specific answers for you. However, I would suggest you to listen to the podcasts and really get a handle on the material that way. It is a bit complicated, there is a lot to it but I think it will help you and I think it’s important for us horse owners to understand from the basics… Read more

hi everyone! I have some questions! The formatting seems to be funny so I apologize if this isn’t formatted correctly!

Hi @KayTeeDid !! I see you’re a breeder. Do you find the grain free/forage based diet is “enough” for the broodmares? I have other breeders and vets telling me I need to feed a broodmare type feed like Growth. Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Thanks Karen-glad to hear your experience. I am happy that by adding the SBM although we may have a challenging personality to deal with we’re removing the obstacles that don’t need to be there.

Hi Angela,
I have one of those horses who does not suffer fools. His behavior improved a lot with the diet change 2+ years ago but he still decides very quickly who is worthy of his time. He’s very much a highly sensitive, thinking horse that learns very quickly, gets bored easily, and he’s not spooky or nervous. He doesn’t tolerate people… Read more

Yawning when the bridle comes out
So my gelding has been doing this about 2 years and it has perplexed me a lot. It cannot mean nothing. He had what the vet thought was a secondary wolf tooth and this was removed which I thought would stop it. But it hasn’t. I had his teeth floated twice this year but it is not different. He also takes the reins if we stop and stretches… Read more

late winter dark orange gelding pee
Thanks, I’ll try a few different things. I have a Himalayan salt lick and a blue salt lick (not the kind with molasses but I think there is some sort of other component, possibly cobalt?) but I am also giving a mineral/vitamin called omenity. It’s a powder and doesn’t have any starches or oils or other unwanted ingredients but I am beginning… Read more
