AngelaM started the discussion Fly sprays-what makes sense? in the forum Systems And Diseases 4 years ago
I have been wondering a while now about whether having insecticides in fly sprays make sense. (I realize there are sprays made of essential oils only and this is what I now use) It seems to me it makes sense to repel the flies only as trying to kill them with a chemical when they land on your horse is not likely going to be successful-they… Read more

Welcome Dinah! My sensitive horse has thrived on this diet and I am happy to hear how well your mare is responding. Great to have you here.

Psyllium on the no-grain diet?
Thanks! So interesting that sand accumulation is a result of decreased gut motility from inflammation. But I don’t think it’s what’s going on with my horse. It made no difference when I soaked all his hay for a couple months when he was first diagnosed with asthma. Since then I’ve been steaming all his hay (homemade steamer). Again no… Read more

Here is a present I made for my wife. It works really well and after draining the water she can just wheel the hay out to the paddock.

Psyllium on the no-grain diet?
@Kathy I want to add 2 things:
1) I just heard a podcast on sand accumulation and the use of psyllium and the “experts” agree that there is little evidence that it works in horses. Rather, sand accumulation is secondary to gut inflammation. While this isn’t the case with your horse, someone reading this after a search for “psyllium” needs… Read more

@AngelaM Remember you cannot build a building (muscles, connective tissue) without enough of the right materials (all the amino acids in enough amounts).
1 pound of soybean meal = 174g (approx) of high quality protein that includes the branch chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) as well as lysine required in every protein. Add… Read more

Thanks @DinahC for your kind words. It is thrilling (and humbling) to know that so many around the world are reading and applying my ideas in reducing chronic systemic inflammation and replacing lost protein with high quality protein in the diet. These notes help fuel me to keep going in the New Year! Doc T

Thanks for the welcome Eliza and AngelaM.
@ AngelaM, yes, I have picked up as I’ve been reading through other members intro’s that I might well have found a few people in the community with horses that are very similar to Praline. I’m so sorry there are others who are living with equally sensitive and reactive horses, but thrilled to know… Read more

Welcome Dinah! I wish you well on your journey with Praline. We are travelling a similar path here in Canada! I would be interested in your perspective as a bodyworker on the changes you see after a few months of this way of feeding. I have our chiropractor/cranial sacral therapist booked for later this month. Although I’m not riding at… Read more
