Rounds With Doc T - "Fat And Physics - 2 Reasons For Soft Tissue Injuries In Horses" - 2021 May 31st
Hi Kerry
There are a lot of possibilities here. The first thing I would ask is whether this occurs when he is engaged or does this toe dragging occur only when he is traveling without engagement. If this is the case, is the toe dragging just laziness or is there pain he is willing to forget as his brain focuses on the task at hand?
Toe…

Can't find SBM in Northern California
I have heard from others on the FB group asking the same thing. Then I hear from someone in Kenya who had no trouble finding SBM. It seems to be hit or miss.
Some travel an hour once or twice a month to get theirs. We are lucky as our local feed dealer is about 2 miles from us and delivers it. And they get it from Ohio.
CA is a large…

I just heard a 2 hour podcast on muscle formation and how important the creation of muscle is in overall health of humans. This is worthy of a podcast discussion as it relates to the health of our horses.
Simply put, more muscle = more places to store excess glucose without fat formation. It is an integral part of maintaining blood glucose…

Hey everyone! 15 days on the road and lots of horses seen from Florida to Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland and New York. While a lot of horses now have good teeth, what I found most fascinating was that everyone wants to know about feeding their horses. I repeated how fat forms and the role of insulin – usually 3 or more times a day.
So many…

Fun With Physics And Horses - Podcast #010 ( Moved to community.thehorsesadvocate.com )“Physics And Horses” – Physics is a collection of laws that control how things work in this world. They have no allegiance to a country, religion or even if you are a plant, animal or mineral. Physics is the…

There are 2 things here. 1) coughing and 2) clover drool.
The cough can be coming from an unlimited number of things. I see pollen dust on my parked car and this is the time of year where everyone’s allergies are starting up. The 2 to 3 week window is along this line of reasoning. It certainly can be the grass but it can also be weeds, trees,…

Rounds With Doc T - "Fat And Physics - 2 Reasons For Soft Tissue Injuries In Horses" - 2021 May 31st
Maybe I should call it Phat and Physics – or Fat and Fysics?? This will be a mix of some interesting ideas that started when I saw an “epidemic” of suspensory injuries over the past decade. I try to answer why they have become so prevalent when suspensory injuries were only found in one branch of the suspensory in racing Thoroughbreds back in the 1980’s.

What I really want is a simple list of ingredients...
I received this request from someone: “What I really want right now is a simple list of the actual foods I should use in what amounts, without any explanations.”
Here is my response:
I really am trying to make this website easy for everyone to find the information they are looking for while providing the in depth reasons behind this information.…

To all members - I need some feedback as soon as you can
I just saw a case of non-healing scratches in a 30 year old who also has DSLD of the front limbs (where the fetlock drops to the ground), top line muscle loss, EOTRH (losing the incisor teeth) and Cushing’s disease. He is being fed grain and no soybean meal.
I also saw another 30 year old this week who had equine sleep disorder (“narcolepsy”)…

Last night I attended another AAEP Round Table discussion – “Equine Pain Management: Hospital Patient vs Performance Horse.” The 2 speakers were very informed as both were trained anesthesiologists. What I found most interesting was the…

From experience working in a small animal clinic I see Trazadone being prescribed mainly to dogs with seperation anxiety. Unfortunately it is deemed ineffective by owners. I personally like CBD oil for small animals and advocate for a specific product that I have seen work.
