Rounds With Doc T - Thursday April 13th, 2023 [[Replay]]
Hi Dr. T.,
I’m volunteering at a galiceno sanctuary & I am considering adopting the 2 year old Philly I have been working with.
We have bonded w/each other quite nicely. I have been Sierra’s only human interaction as far as playing, exercising & taking long walks. The owners of the sanctuary feed them, groom them & try to start them on… Read more -

It is hard to think that the time needed to replace the hoof is long. Let’s look at some factors.
The hoof is 100% protein. Some will insist that minerals make up the hoof, but to be correct, minerals are required to construct the hoof. Once made, it is all protein. It is also important to know that 24% of the hoof is one amino acid (AA)… Read more

Update – the plastic quarter turn valve soon became hard to turn. I replaced it with a more expensive brass valve which works really well.

1st of all, there must have been a programming problem that made this question not appear until March 2023. I’m so sorry!
I don’t know of any rechargeable fans that will last long due to continuous recharging. An alternative is to set up a solar panel that feeds the battery so that the battery rarely runs low.
As far as the odor,… Read more

The most common dental issue in TB racehorses is loose or broken caps interfering with the tongue or digging into the cheek. The next most common are sharp points causing pain. When I worked at the racetracks, I… Read more

To my supporters of Rounds With Doc T – all is OK here. However, something happened that made tonight’s event not happen, and I am sorry for any of you who made the time to be here.
I am not sure of how to manage this. One thought is to reschedule this for either this Saturday evening at 8 pm or for next Thursday at 8 pm. To be honest, no one… Read more

So sorry, Wren, but I just listened to that part of the video and the audio is there. My guess is that you just need to refresh the page, or reboot your computer and reconnect to the internet and get a full download of the video.
There is no transcript. However, what I said in a nutshell is that metformin helps to reduce glucose by… Read more

Yes, soaking the hay removes all free sugar, which is at the root of insulin dysregulation and is present in horses with “tender feet” and certainly with laminitis.
The starting point for SBM is 1 pound (16 oz) per 1200-pound horse. 800 pounds is 2/3’s of 1200, so 2/3’s of 16 oz is about 11 oz. However, that would be the minimum to add to… Read more

Welcome Wren, and thanks for bringing along your caregiver! LOL, thank you Linda for finding and implementing the information I have here. It’s exciting, but also frustrating, to see positive results with so simple a concept.
I did not see that you were adding soybean meal (SBM). If you have, then be patient as the hoof needs at least a year… Read more
