A pine tree was struck by lightning in a horses pasture. Do I cut the stump low to the ground or ground the stump?

This can go either way.
If left tall, it can become an obstacle to be wounded on. If ground, it can become a depression over time as the roots rot.
Some have left the stump tall, like 6 feet (2m) which a horse will remember as always being there. But ground flat works, too, if you remember to add fill as needed.
Another option is to grind it flat and then place something over the spot, such as a hay feeder or water tank. Or to fence it out with an 8-foot (3m) square fence. But there is no “right” answer. The cost, number of horses, and the attitude of the horses (geriatrics v yearlings) will help you decide. Thanks for asking this question here. Doc T (remember to let us know what you do and maybe post some pictures too to help others.
