Just an observation that others surely have made: with all the discussion around equine nutrition, I’m more acutely aware of it in other animal areas. When I switched my horse’s diet I attempted to research canine nutrition. I was quickly overwhelmed and haven’t yet found a reliable source of information.
We’ve had Vizslas (a pointing breed) for about 20 years. I’m in a Vizsla group on social media. Post after post is about dogs developing skin issues, allergies, etc. I don’t comment, but rarely is nutrition discussed. We added a new puppy to the household (a decision I question on an hourly basis). We bought a 5.5 lb bag of puppy food with high quality ingredients the day we went to pick him up. It was…FORTY DOLLARS. Yeah, that’s happening only once. Yowsa.

Hey Karen! We added a new pup to our household also. I understand the questioning 😀 I have a mop always nearby! We have Airedales. I also have been questioning canine nutrition issues. Abby, our older dog has a sensitive stomach and I finally started cooking for her. Then I began feeding her Fresh Pet – which she seems to do well on. When the Puppy came along I was really unsure what to do. For now, I am feeding her what the breeder had the pups on but have been adding Fresh Pet as she gets older. These fresh products are not cheap. I may decide to go back to my own meal prep and see what is less expensive. It is truly a challenge!
