Hi LisaE – Thanks for joining us and for this comprehensive report on your 3 horses. There are indications of protein deficiency and we all look forward to your updates.
The images show horses with nice shiny hair coats so overall, they look healthy. I am impressed with your ability to look through this to see underlying issues before they…

Welcome Jax!! And congratulations on completing your veterinary degree! Nice photos of you showing off your hand in the mouth and the 306 filing. Good job.
Whenever you are ready to return for that 3-in-a-row exam, just say so. Until then, keep practicing on those Thoroughbreds at the track.
Melissa says hi!

As a general rule of thumb, wounds below the knee and hock can get proud flesh while above, not so much. Therefore, above these structures where it is difficult to wrap you have 3 options: 1) suture, 2) wrap or 3) keep clean and let heal by “second intention.” #1 and #3 work well where there is a lot of underlying muscle while less well…

Wound irrigation is important. Cleanliness is happiness! But being gently does not get the job done.
Scrubbing with gauze and Betadine is essential followed by flushing with high pressure water. Using peroxide is fine too. Anything to dislodge dirt with minor attention to the non-sterile environment of hose water. Follow everything with…

@Katlovan – Thanks for this question. I too have questions about oral supplementation so I listened to a Platinum Performance (PP) podcast on this subject just 2 days ago. Funny how that happens.
While it was a product sponsored podcast, the information was really good in describing what a joint is and how they work. The vet being interviewed…

Biting a carrot is a classic test for incisor pain from EOTRH. It truly is a “huge red flag” when they cannot bite it in two. Thanks for this info!

@Lancette Thanks for the update image for the EOTRH. Very useful!

The improvement is remarkable! I have a client with progress images seeing the same results even though she refuses to eliminate grain. This indicates (but in no way proves) that lectins may be responsible for the disease.
My thought on the incisor tarter or the reduced cleaning of the labial (and often lingual) side of the incisors is that…

To all members – I just added a new field in the member profile where you can add where you are from. This is an optional field but I think that knowing where we all generally come from adds a dimension of empowering the overall goal of helping all horses everywhere.
For me, knowing there are members from around the world means that there…

Rounds With Doc T - "Fat And Physics - 2 Reasons For Soft Tissue Injuries In Horses" - 2021 May 31st
Hi Kerry
There are a lot of possibilities here. The first thing I would ask is whether this occurs when he is engaged or does this toe dragging occur only when he is traveling without engagement. If this is the case, is the toe dragging just laziness or is there pain he is willing to forget as his brain focuses on the task at hand?
Toe…

Can't find SBM in Northern California
I have heard from others on the FB group asking the same thing. Then I hear from someone in Kenya who had no trouble finding SBM. It seems to be hit or miss.
Some travel an hour once or twice a month to get theirs. We are lucky as our local feed dealer is about 2 miles from us and delivers it. And they get it from Ohio.
CA is a large…
