Should my horse's teeth be extracted due to EOTRH?
1) Adding the shredded mushrooms is excellent for EOTRH but only if you also remove the cause. In my opinion the cause is from the lectins of grains causing the autoimmune reaction of the underlying bone. If you haven’t done so, please read this blog: What Is The Cause Of EOTRH In Horses? And you also might be interested in this one: Speechless… Read more

Do horses like to eat SBM (soybean meal)?
Mine all eat it dry, by itself. They will also eat it wet.

Kathy replied to the discussion $8 Price raise for SBM in the forum No Grain Challenge 4 years ago
I’ve paid more for non-gmo ($25.50 per bag) and one store was getting I think $35 for organic (I never bought it as neither the store nor the mill could tell me if it was Dehulled). The regular SBM is $18.50 at one store and $20 at another IIRC and the price is pretty steady.

9 year old Paint horse with Parrot Mouth missing #102 incisor. Owner informed me it was pulled because it was sticking straight out the mouth. Parrot mouth is when the mandibular incisors are caudal to the maxillary incisors. This condition does not affect the cheek teeth. Horses are able to chew properly and maintain healthy weights. Cause… Read more

Suitable Proteins Other Than SBM
Thank you Dr. Tucker! I believe in the phrase “less is more” as well. I can’t imagine adding multiple supplements (hoof, coat, colic care, fly repel, oils, etc) and additives (rice bran, seeds, wheat bran, etc) to a horse’s diet can be good for them, or wouldn’t cause some sort of GI upset or imbalance. Even before the No Grain diet I only…

Thanks @KayTeeDid – Store your SBM in steel or heavy plastic pails to prevent rodents getting in. You also don’t want it in humidity. SBM will spoil over time and should be thrown out (not fed) if it is close to a year old or is spoiled in any way.

There are agricultural engineering articles out there working on the technical engineering issues farmers have. I have read several articles on SBM and the unique issues with moving it. It is a “sticky” product that requires steeper angles for the augers (gravity assistance) plus the addition of “flow agents” to prevent clumping and jamming.…

Howdy Emily and (husband)! Thanks for being here and adding all of your images of your “crew.” I don’t often see husbands involved in the wife’s passion / obsession with the barn and I alway like to acknowledge them when they do come out to see me, though yesterday it was only because he wanted to know more about the Tesla than to know more…

Suitable Proteins Other Than SBM
Our eyes tell us there is a correlation between a shiny hair coat and chia seeds but is the cause of the hair coat shine the same as the shiny hair coat people see after adding soybean meal? There are so many factors at play. What other parameters should we look at? Top line development or hoof quality might be other things to look at and we…

Suitable Proteins Other Than SBM
If that is the case, then why do we see positive external effects from horse owners feeding chia seeds? Ex: The shinier coats.

Rounds With Doc T - “Aerobic Exercise And Its Role In Insulin Resistance" - 2021 February 28th
Doc T here with an update to those who have listened to this and may have gotten a little lost. I have a podcast scheduled for next week where I have the principles of this drawn onto a white board in real time as I talk. Helpful for those visual learners. But I have more ideas to break this into components.
Understanding these pieces will…
