Rounds with Doc T – Wednesday June 7th, 2023 [Replay]
Howdy Advocates! This is the June 7th Rounds with Doc T Zoom Meeting thread.
I want to dedicate this week’s meeting in loving memory of George Whelly, my wife Kathy’s Father, who passed away at 95 and lived a fulfilling and happy life. George was a great help in supporting our family during the early days we started our farm in upstate New York. We will be traveling to attend services and have to change our schedule slightly. We thank you for understanding and hope you can attend on Wednesday instead of our usual Thursday time.
I use a whiteboard throughout this Rounds With Doc T, so watching as I draw is far better than just listening. There are three questions, and I go into each with details.
05:41 – “My horse came in with a cloudy eye. My vet says it’s a corneal ulcer. How do these form and how can I avoid?“
21:22 – “What can I do to harden the soles of the hooves? This horse reacted to soybean meal after feeding it without a problem for 7 1/2 months.“
39:12 – “My 14-year-old gelded warmblood was on 9 quarts of grain plus hay cubes. I removed all grain in January, feeding only forage (12 flakes plus pellets). In March, I added 2 pounds daily of soybean meal. The trainer now thinks he looks too lean and needs more groceries to increase his get-up-and-go. Is he getting enough nutrition? Should I be adding something?“
