Doc T on the state of dentistry in equine. As most of you know, dentistry is my main focus in the practice, and right now is the peak for me, bringing up some interesting observations I wish to share. However, we also touched on building muscle, metabolism, and anxiety (in horses and humans).

0:0 – A success story about the forage + SBM diet. We also discuss how muscle is built using only the diet and without exercise. How leucine, an essential amino acid, is a signaling molecule when it binds to the mTOR receptor found on muscle cells.

18:00 – Dentistry in horses – topics discussed:

    • Oral pain, threshold of pain and pain medication for dentistry
    • Leveling the incisors (incisor reduction)
    • Lack of any evidence in dentistry techniques or theories
    • My trip to Scotland to learn about dentistry in horses
    • Enamel overgrowths from lack of tooth wear – my opinion of why they are not a problem in most cases

37:20 – Anxiety in horses and humans – a discussion that includes blood-brain barrier inflammation.

56:40 – Stress and how it affects metabolism. An update on a horse with metabolic syndrome and a discussion in horses and other animals, including humans.
