Description: The experts are now saying that Cushing’s disease (PPID) is a neurodegenerative disease, but that is as far as they are willing to go. But we all see this disease in our horses older than 12 years, and they all look poorly. Why?

Many confuse this disease with Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Insulin Resistance / Dysregulation. I want to clarify the difference. I also want to discuss that there may be a way to normalize horses diagnosed with this disease and, with the help of your veterinarian, get horses off medication.

    Chat:

04 Why does Prascend change (lighten) hair color? Black mane into red/brown.

05 What about no grain, but whole apples and carrots, with skins and fiber?

38 Are there any conditions known to be associated with gray coloring?

58 I am being told that I can eat whole fruit no problem re fructose.

00 Do vets diagnose PPID because they don’t really know what is happening and prescribe Prascend because it’s the only thing in their “tool box” so to speak?

49 Are hay pellets, any type such as alfalfa or alfalfa/grass or grass, inflammatory to the gut? or create excess glucose in body?

29 Just something interesting…my horse won’t eat his SBM in the morning, but will gobble it down in the afternoon.

26 Also interesting…Pergolide is no longer available for humans in the USA

10 If a horse is showing physical signs of PPID and with a switch to SBM and forage, can you adivse or determine how long it will take a horse to recover from PPID symptoms?

13 Prascend is proprietary Pergolide. I can still get Pergolide, but only from a compounding pharmacy. This was a surprise to me because my vet said it was different than Pergolide. It seems it is more expensive. This became a discussion of Legend, generic, and compounded medicines.

51 Sera has been on this path since 2016. She is not ‘healed’. But I hate to think what she would be like without the diet care.

42 My horse has been on the diet for 2 years. In the past,, he would shed but not until late. This year he has already started shedding. Wow!

33 It’s smart, but know I think just common sense.

23 SBM is also high in water soluble fiber which is essential for liver detox

05 DMSO!
