    Howdy, everyone!

Here is the replay of the August 30, 2021 Rounds with Doc T “Horse Fencing, Gates, Maintenance And Safety”

There are so many types of fences and fence gates and latches used that I have come across. This was a discussion of basics that can be applied to make these as safe as possible for horses while keeping maintenance and other costs down.

This is mostly a visual with many images and it moves fast. The best thing to do is takes notes and reference the page number of the presentation (in the left column) and then submit your thoughts, additions or questions in the replies below. I would love to see images of what you are talking about so be sure to add some.

I commented during the webinar that I use corrugated, flexible drain pipe on top fence boards to protect the boards from my cribber. As requested, here are a couple of photos. I buy a 50′ section at Home Depot (inexpensive) and cut as needed. This is a stiff material, stays put, and lasts a long time. Easily replaced and doesn’t look horrible on a black fence.

Thank you @KarenM for these images. Great idea and looks great too. Thanks for adding the red arrows to the picture of your horse – he looks so good I would have missed the tile on the shed!

Thanks – I think Remy has snuck into a 6 body score and is aiming for 7. People keep asking me what kind of warmblood he is then stare in disbelief when I say “Thoroughbred”. Ruh roh.

    Hello Dr T!

In our discussion I mentioned that we used carriage bolts, nuts and washers for our fencing. You asked me to post a few pictures.

Hi Patrica, (Would you go in and edit your user name so we all know who you are?😉). I think that this fence looks good and sturdy. I can’t see much of the back sides of the bolt but from the one pic, I think I see a length of bolt on the backside. I would get someone to hack that off. It could be a potential danger to a horse’s eye if they were to put their head through. I may be a bit overcautious, but I have seen quite a few weird accidents.
