Unfortunately the only local SBM I have access to is not what I feel comfortable using. I purchased a bag yesterday from my feedstore, got it home, opened it up and it’s got lots of flaked corn and several oats throughout the feed sack. I know exactly where it came from and had my reservations on using it from this particular company. I typically won’t use their feed in general because of reasons like the above. Plus they are a huge producer of medicated cattle feed and I do not trust them to provide a clean safe option for horse feed in general. So Unfortunately, my search continues. I’ve found a clean source but will be shipped and it’s not cheap! However I’ve paid a lot more for supplements so that’s how I’m trying to justify the cost. 3 other stores around me carry the same brand as I bought yesterday. It’s not an option. My horse is on 4 scoops of thyro L per day and my goal is to ultimately be able to remove that. Vet was concerned with “how fat” my horse was and prescribed the thyro l. With more targeted exercise and cutting his feed to a ration balancer I feel he’s lost some fat but he suffers in the energy department and still appears lumpy to me. I’m hopeful changing his diet up and removing the inflammatory feeds will help and help get him off the meds.
