Michelle & Benny
Hi. This is Michelle (& Benny) from Long Island, NY. I fell in love with horses at a very young age and began weekly lessons at a local barn when I was about 7 years old. I found many ways to include horses in my life. I mucked stalls in exchange for lessons and riding time, was a trail guide, exercised polo ponies, and rode on my college equestrian team. I owned my first horse shortly after marrying my husband in 1987. I owned my second horse when my children were in elementary school. I leased a few horses after that and welcomed Benny into my life this past November. My focus with the first two horses I owned and with the horses I leased was on hunter/jumpers. With Benny, I am making a discipline change to dressage and I’m loving it. I decided to do things a little differently with this horse, going for a more holistic approach and trying to create the happiest, healthiest horse possible. I took Benny off of grain in January and began a forage first diet. I added soy bean meal to his diet in March after Doc T came to float Benny’s teeth and asked me what I was giving him for protein. That opened up a whole discussion and introduction to The Horse’s Advocate. I am a recently retired school-based speech & language pathologist and have been spending much time reading, researching, and learning about horse care from a more natural, holistic approach. I am excited to join this group and learn from Doc T and fellow members.
