    Hi Doc T.

In reference to your March 14, 2024 Rounds inquiry, who is your target market, equine vets or equine owners, who may or may not be horse lovers?

You are swimming upstream against conventional wisdom (marketing and advertising) just like other singular solo(s) such as KC LaPierre, Pat & Linda Parelli, Jean Luc Cornille and a few others. You have turned your back against the choir. Your target market is even more confused due to the advertisement of big agriculture and lack of evidence-based science for equies.

Your point of newly minted equine vets who are academically trained, to a point, but IMO are ignorant to what they do not know and what they really need to know. It is unfortunate. They lack the experience and wisdom to know differently.

I will throw out some ideas that may help (or not)….local, regional, national horse expos where you participate as a clinician with speaking engagements on nutrition, monthly equine vet students luncheons or seminars held near their college campus and speaks to nutrition, aligning with a well-known and respected farrier for a local clinic about hooves, teeth and nutrition. Somehow someway, you have to great a bigger need (larger irritation) in people to listen to make the change. People only change when they are irritated enough to make a change or shift in beliefs.

The reason Pat P. became so successful was Linda P. who was the educator of people. Maybe she could assist you in developing an adult-learner friendly curriculum. Their paradigm was we train humans to train horses. We are a people training program. That came from Linda not Pat. I was there at the beginning. I saw and used his first generation materials. It was difficult. Look to her for some ideas. She is brilliant with this type of thinking.

Your information is great as is your research and its presentation. It has and continues to evolve. It is a dry topic that many people don’t understand which is evident that 70% of the population exceeds normal body weight. Maybe it is difficult for them to address the same needs in their horses because THEY struggle with their own body condition. Maybe that is the crux of the problem of acceptance as it is difficult to look objectively at your unhealthy fat horse when you have the same tendencies.

    Hope this help, Lynne

Somehow, you have to triangulate your information as you know most people triangulate their information when making major changes, how can you do this triangulation with your endeavor? I think you have two of the three, maybe you need to find a third entity that will project your information above the conventional wisdom.

Thanks, Lynne, for these thoughts. If only I had the time to go around the countryside to give clinics. However, the cost to bring this information is high and is met with my regular job of farm visits. Until I am free to have this site pay all the bills, I must continue to plug away with my approach.

What I do now has increased awareness in a silent community of veterinarians, trainers, farriers, and horse owners who are not vocal, but are moved by my willingness to speak out. And I’m starting to speak louder with each passing day where I see horses suffering from the ignorance of owners and professionals.

Changes are occurring at THA, including improvements to this community and the courses offered. I’m also improving my podcast delivery. I hope you will notice the changes in the upcoming weeks and months. I’m in this for the long haul, and I was in it in the beginning – since 2007! Stay tuned.

Since December 2024, I have now influenced 7.5 horseowners, they have all moved to the use of SBM and began the process of eliminating the inflammatory junk. I say .5 because I got one on the fence fighting the notions of too much protein, too much chemicals, GMO, estrogen. They are see all the ‘cons’ over the pros and to boot she did your protocol ten years ago for a year and deemed it unsuccessful on a draft rescue who had health problems plus she was adding other thngs to the horse’s diet. Hopefully, she will see the benefits of SBM thru my horses. I keep sending podcasts out to my other 7. I think I have one who will become member soon. Just yesterday, I influenced her that today she is seeking a SBM source. She will have not problems as lives in Central Valley CA. Keep fighting the good fight and find an ally that can help you with the marketing and education aspect (hint Linda P).
