Hi Doc T and who ever would like to give me their thoughts. My horse Niobe has come down with laminitis she is 17 years of age, she has been on Soybean meal for the last 5 years and only Alfalfa and let out to pasture. Niobe is not over weight I have tried grass hay at different times and she has diarrhea. One of my questions is Can I soak the Alfalfa just like grass hay to get all the sugar out? The pain medicine my vet has given her does not seem to anything for the pain. Me soaking her legs and putting Poultice Clay with arnica seems to give her some relief.

My farrier will be coming out Tuesday to check her again. Thank you for your time.

      Warmly,

Care PS. her ACTH is 4.47 pmol/L

      • Soybean meal should not cause the problem nor should alfalfa be an issue as it is ok for limonitic horses. The questions I would have is about the richness in pasture. The diarrhea would make me think dysbiosis, gut upset cause by what Niobe is eating. Just because her weight is good that does not mean she is not metabolic.

        Not advice, just my thoughts
