Identification

Identification of horses is important. The images below show several ways to identify horses. I was astonished to see the tongue tattooed.

Today, it is popular to use microchips embedded under the skin and read by scanners. Blood typing is also a good way to identify horses but requires drawing blood and sending it for analysis.

In FL, a thief stole a horse and sprayed it with shoe polish, which turned the chestnut horse into a blood-bay horse. It also covered some of the white markings. Investigators sampled the blood and confirmed the stolen horse’s identity. The arrested thief was also linked to a murder.
