Stall Kicking

Horses that kick out when contained inside an enclosure are called stall kickers. I am not convinced they are trying to make a sound. Rather, I believe they are showing uncontrolled emotions such as frustration. I don’t see horses just kicking out while standing in a field.

Adding kick mats helps to decrease the shock to the limb and should be installed. Adding kicking chains or hobbles doesn’t solve the issue. I would suggest looking at the diet and adjusting that to adjust the gut microbiota whhich will improve the emotional side of horses.
