Pygmy Miniature

Pygmy is another term for dwarfism that occurs in the mini horse breed. They are not as common as they once were when the mini horse breed became popular in the 1980s.

These horses have heads diproportionally large compared with the body and with this, often have abnormal bite alignment with dental problems. The limbs are usually deformed with angular limbs. This affects hoof shape.

Pygmy horses, like the one seen below, are commonly used as therapy horses, party ponies, or kept as pets.
